2050
Our school is famous
for growing great food,
seeds, trees, and knowledge.

We are part of a bigger network.
We work together and build happy, healthy communities.

We learn together with farmers and scientists. We protect our soil, our health, and the planet.

And..

We cook super delicious school meals 🙂

But, it wasn´t always like this..

Twenty Five years ago:
Things began to change.
Slowly at first.
Then faster and faster.

More and more of the food we ate came from far away. More food was produced with automated machines and packaged in plastic. Fresh food was still there, but it became harder to find.

Some fresh food also began to change. It was grown with strong chemicals and only a few types of expensive seeds. The food had less taste and many people felt it made them sick.

The soil in gardens and fields
became weak and tired.
In many places, plants struggled to grow.

Farmers worked very hard.
But markets changed. Selling local food became difficult.

More good food was wasted.
More trash appeared in streets, rivers, and fields.

Head, Heart and Hands Superpowers
to bring the change we needed

We learned to meet as neighbors. We now talk and we listen to each other.

We value old wisdom, our practices, and new ideas.

We learned to plan and develop our communities together. We now help each other; humans, animals, and plants.

We found many ways to do the work we love. There is now enough room to explore different talents and create successful livelihoods.

The many food choices in our cities and villages are now super tasty, safe, fresh, and healthy again.

Life is Good in 2050!
We are grateful and Happy 🙂
But then, something scary happened 🙁

An unknown force tried to change the timeline — our history. Suddenly, back in the year 2026, people stopped what we had learned to do! And things were no longer the way we knew them in 2050.

We found
Agency!

But we found a way to send Action Game Cards
back in time to the year 2026!
That worked 🙂

We also found a way to connect with people in 2026 through the “fsys network”

We began to understand the challenges we are having.

We now work together.

We co-design helpful Action Cards and send them back in time.
People in 2026 started to play our Food System Action Cards in many places. People shared what they learned with the world around…

And slowly…one action at a time…
our future becomes more beautiful again!

The comic design (world-building, writing, collaboration, development of an illustration workflow using open-source AI models, and manual web and print design) is a free and voluntary contribution by the open educational resource initiative fsysgame.org
(Creative Producer: André Boeing).
At fsysgame.org, we are deeply grateful for the collaboration that further shapes our narrative action card game for food systems education — an interactive tool that works offline without electricity as well as digitally.
Designed as a bold, positive future agency storyworld grounded in solid science, field experience, advanced curricula, and respect for Indigenous knowledge, the comic is inspired by the Multifunctional Schools Network and the incredible dedicated team around Dr. Lisa Elena Fuchs at CGIAR under the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT.
They introduced us to sustainable, living landscapes and the 13 Agroecological Principles. We are deeply grateful for the solid ground and fertile soil on which we can now continue to grow our educational storyworld.
This Open Educational Resource is now freely available to support agroecological and joyful food systems education in schools, clubs, homes, and communities — and as a creative tool for language learning as it uses simple, short sentences.
