Fsys is a real-world action game in the Collectible Card Game (CCG) genre. It serves as an open-source educational platform for Food System Transformation, Agroecology, whole-school approaches to food and practising the Sustainable Development Goals.

Every card is an action. Save seeds 🌾. Build compost ♻️. Restore biodiversity 🐝. Shorten food chains 🚜. Advocate for your land 📣. Players don’t just learn the concepts they practice them in the real world.

Our first Expansion Kit has been co-created with and published under the CGIAR Science Program on Multifunctional Landscapes, led by the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT and features Agroecology principles, Multifunctional Landscape themes and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Cooperative Development as an OER

fsys has been cooperatively developed since June 2025 as a 'Collective Card Game' and Open Educational Resource (OER). This narrative gamification ecosystem is cultivated within a living lab—a shared commons driven by a value-aligned, multi-stakeholder network of contributors, including youth participants from co-design playshops across the African and European continents.

Kenya Series: MFSN School Expansion 1

The current MFSN Game Comic & fsys Card Game series + open educational resource program features 13 Agroecology principles, 12 Multifunctional Landscape themes and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. It has been developed with the Multifunctional Schools Network in Kenya, established with CSHEP and DNRC in Kiambu, Kajiado, and Makueni Counties, under the CGIAR Science Program on Multifunctional Landscapes, led by the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, in collaboration with The Grass Company and fsysgame.org

A Comic in a library of high level science publications? Our collaborative "Food Heroes Comic: Growing great food, seeds, trees & knowledge. No. 1. CGIAR Science Program on Multifunctional Landscapes" has been published as an Open Access Resource by CGIAR.org last month. The first Print edition is going around schools and we heard, that quite some Scientists were trying to get their hands on copies in the CGIAR centres as well ;)

The fresh fsys Germany website comes in our fresh DESIGN.md base where we redefined the visual style of fsysgame.org to feel more like being "in the Game". We test this during our rollout in Germany, iterate and use for our international site.
